Have you given your teen a credit card? Does she have her own debit card?

If so, make sure that she is as aware of the perils of identity theft as you are. Warn her not to pass it on to friends, even just for a quick purchase. Identity theft, as you may know, is often a result of friends trusting friends. And, sad as it may sound, Americans will have to learn to change the way we trust others.

If your child is old enough to have his own plastic, he’s old enough to know about identity theft. Talk to him about it, share your own knowledge, and research it together online. Today, it’s just another responsibility of being a good parent.
